Aromatherapy

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy means “a therapy using essential oils derived from plants”. These natural plant oils are applied in a variety of ways including massage, aromatic baths, inhalations, hot and cold compresses and mixed in creams and lotions. Essential oils are absorbed into the body in one of two ways either through the pores of the skin into the bloodstream during massage, or through nasal cavities during inhalation.

Today Aromatherapy is one of the most popular and fast growing branches of complementary medicine. It takes into consideration the needs of the whole person. In other words your visit will involve time spent discussing how you are feeling – not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too in order to determine which essential oils are most appropriate for you at this time. The therapeutic and relaxing effects are excellent for treating many ailments as well as uplifting the spirits and creating a general sense of well-being.

Essential oils are individually blended for each client and aftercare advice is given to prolong the effect of your treatment.

How will it benefit me?

In physical terms massage speeds up circulation of the blood, helps
lymphatic drainage, aids the body’s elimination of toxins, relieves tense
and tired muscles, enhances skin lustre and calms and soothes the
nervous system.

Essential oils can relax the mind and the body. They can help to relieve pain, and restore
body systems to a state of equilibrium in which healing can take place. In addition,
one of the best things about using essential oils is that they are pleasurable as
well as therapeutic, which is another way they can enhance our feelings of well-being.
